The Old Settler’s Music Festival kicks off April 19 about 12 miles southeast of Lockhart featuring a star-studded lineup that includes Ray Wylie Hubbard, Railroad Earth, I’m With Her, Bob Schneider, JD McPherson, Calexico, Tomar & the FCs, Jamestown Revival, Greensky Bluegrass and The California Honeydrops.
Expected to attract about 14,000 people over four days, it will be the largest festival ever held in Caldwell County and will mark a new era for the family-friendly Roots and Americana music festival as it settles into its fourth and final home.
The non-profit Old Settler’s Music Festival, Inc. purchased the 145-acre property at 1616 FM 3158 last year after 16 years of leasing properties in Driftwood. It’s the first permanent home for the festival that began in Round Rock’s Old Settler’s Park in 1987.
The property’s proximity to SH 130 played a role in the site selection, as the high-speed roadway can speed travel times for many festival-goer, particularly those coming from North Austin.
The new site is more than twice as big as the Driftwood location allowing organizers to expand the festival’s food offerings, children’s activities, crafts fair and onsite parking.
About 2,500 people are expected to camp out onsite during the event, which also features late night and early-morning acoustic sessions.
Organizers say the event’s new home is a good fit for the festival, and they appreciate the support they have received so far.
About 1,000 people showed up at an “open house” event in February, despite the rain.
“One of the things Old Settler’s is known for is a laid back, friendly vibe,” said Jean Spivey, executive director of the festival. “It’s a festival for people who don’t like festivals. When we had our open house, we had the same vibe at our new location, and it’s a great vibe.”
