CR 217 Boggy Creek Road Overpass and Slope Repairs
If you’ve ever driven along SH 130 or its frontage roads near the CR 217 overpass after a hard rain, you may have noticed soil slipping or sliding down the steep slopes between the frontage roads and toll road in the vicinity of the bridge.
This slippage has occurred repeatedly since the facility opened, resulting in multiple slope failures, occasional lane closures on the frontage roads and pressure on the ends of the bridge. The bridge remains safe, but the stresses created by the shifting soil likely will shorten the useful lifespan of the structure over time without a permanent fix.
In the coming weeks, SH 130 Concession Co., our general contractors Jordan Foster, and its subcontractor Hayward Baker will begin work on a permanent fix that will result in some temporary detours for drivers using the CR 217 bridge and the southern most section of the frontage roads.
Specifically, we’ll be stabilizing the slopes and relieving the pressure on the bridge to allow the structure to expand in warm weather and contract in cold weather as designed.
To stabilize the slopes, we will build a permanent concrete retaining wall north of the bridge along both sides of SH 130.
We also will make drainage improvements along the shoulder of the SH 130 main lanes.
What does this mean for drivers?
Beginning later this month, lane closures on the frontage roads will result in single lanes on both the north and southbound roads between CR 217 and CR 218.
Beginning sometime around mid-June, we will close the Boggy Creek Road bridge for approximately two months. Consequently, we will convert both the north and southbound frontage roads to accommodate two-way traffic for 1.5 miles between CR 217 and CR 218
While we do not expect many drivers to be affected, we apologize for the temporary inconvenience to the drivers who are.
SH 130 Concession Co. is committed to providing the safest and most reliable roadway through Central Texas. Fixing this problem permanently is part of that commitment.
